The Best of Three Worlds!
8 full weeks of cultural immersion + experience-rich programming + sustainability initiatives = The Global Green School!
The typical 1-2 week summer student travel program is rich in global travel experiences, but lacks cultural integration. Semester abroad programs provide the opportunity for cultural integration, but require language fluency and often postpone a student’s graduation date.
We combine the best of both worlds in the Global Green School High School Study Abroad Program. A small group of up to 10 students will spend several weeks in Pisac, Peru accompanied by a Global Green School programs coordinator.
The Global Green School’s 2020 sustainability initiative is to assist local communities in their commitment to reduce dependence on single use plastics.
In December of 2018, the Peruvian government announced a ban on single use plastic bottles in the iconic Incan citadel of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu received over 1.5 million visitors in 2018. The impact of plastic water bottles in this region is staggering, especially considering its remote location – Machu Picchu is only accessible by train! The ban has been limited in its effectiveness due to the logistics involved with phasing out single use plastics.
Our student-led team has the opportunity to partner with a local organization in the Sacred Valley and meet stakeholders who are affecting lasting change in the region.
In addition to contributing to sustainability efforts, students are offered a multitude of travel opportunities, including excursions to the Amazon Jungle, Lake Titicaca and a mule-assisted trek on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
Meeting Education Needs
Some high schools offer online programming for their high school classes, providing a seamless transition for our participants. For students whose schools do not offer online options, Global Green School partners with premiere private online high schools. These partnerships allow students to meet high school graduation requirements and keep pace with peers at their home schools. (tuition not included in Global Green School pricing)
